Selection 3 – 5.00 Wolv Just Bond 1 point win at 7/1
Not too sure what to make of yesterday. Desert Lover ran very poorly but was surprisingly well backed. All I can think is others saw what I saw, expected an improvement in form like me but it didn’t happen for some reason. We won’t be backing this again as it looks useless now.
Just Bond’s race was farcical as it was forced to make the pace. There were 5 non-runners and it ran very close to form but couldn’t uphold the form with Spinning the way the race was run but obviously, 2nd of 3 isn’t nothing to write home about. Not sure what I can do in this situation as it was meant as an each-way bet and then a win bet at decent odds if a non-runner. We ended up on a 6/4 chance though and I’ve never tipped a horse as low as this before! My fault for saying take the SP I guess.
Decider ran a stinker but it was never going to be his race I thought but still decided to tip it. There was far too much pace in the race and he couldn’t get anywhere near the front as he has to lead. I don’t see this as a negative though as I’ll back it again at Southwell if it returns there in a smaller field, so it should be money lent.
Not too confident about any of these today and the racing isn’t great in my opinion. All are weak bets and I know some of you only play my stronger bets, so it will be a quiet day for some of you!
12.40 Kemp
A straight forward selection in the shape of Oiseau De Nuit. The horse loves today’s very testing ground and ran very well last week of this mark to finish second.
It is rated much lower over hurdles than fences and should be able to exploit this mark sooner or later.
The key for me today is the fact it is ridden by Flint and due to the fact he is riding for his own stable in a conditional’s race, he can claim 6lbs which makes this even better handicapped than last week. When you consider it was beaten a nose last week in a slowly run race which didn’t suit, this is well worth a bet today.

4.00 Kemp
A very tricky race but a little bit of value should lie with backing Strawberry. Clearly, backing a horse that bleeds is dangerous and if it breaks a blood vessel again today, not much I can do but I think you have to ignore this fact sometimes.
No form this season thus far but finished last season by winning the Mares Final race at Newbury. Other form last year saw it just beaten by My Petra for example.
It easily beat Classic Fiddle in the Mare’s race and that’s now rated 142. My Petra is rated 147 nowadays and there was every reason to believe that Strawberry had as much potential as both of these to improve this season and hopefully we will see that improvement today.

5.00 Wolv
If this runs, I suggest we back Just Bond again. If you look at his lifetime form, the fact he is running so quickly again is actually a huge positive. It has done this before and his record when running with 3 days of his last start is a win, 2nd and an unplaced effort. He has run on consecutive days twice before and he has arguably run better on the second start each time.
As I said in the intro, I thought it ran really well last night (nearly ran to rating assuming Spinning ran to his rating to win) and today’s race should be run much better to suit.
A few in here are potential improvers but we know Just Bond is in form and if it can run to his rating, would have a squeak of upsetting them I think.
