Every evening, I will review the performance of the horses I selected. The main purpose of this, is with an eye to the future: whether they are horses we should stick with or get rid of.
I analysed two races today: In the first, of these I had one solid selection today but was afraid of the other horse I fancied – and this resulted in me only having 1 point win. My other selection was a bit more speculative but it did have a decent form line with a couple of others in the race. I also had 1 point win on this horse

I narrowed this down to two horses here and they have finished first and second. Badweia stayed on well to repel the challenge of Savannah Poppy but it was maybe value for a little bit more as it took time to get past the leader and then Savannah stayed on late to grab second.
As expected, the first time blinkers have probably made the difference today but as I said this morning, the horse was clearly crying out for softer ground and it would have appreciated the ground today.
I said this morning that Eternal Legacy would need a bog and with all the rain, I wasn’t surprised to see it run very well and be heavily backed pre-race. However, the front two were better handicapped today, so it’s no surprise that it has been beaten by the front two today.
Savannah Poppy continues to frustrate somewhat and I think it keeps a bit for itself in its races. I wouldn’t be rushing to back this next time to be honest. I think that comment applies to the winner also as the blinkers may not have the same effect next time.
Overall, a 14/1 forecast which was a good result.

Last time, Matterofact, Gold Express and Malapropism ran in the same Newmarket race. They finished 2nd, 5th and 8th respectively. Today, I thought that with the visor on for the first time this season, Malapropism could turn around the form and at the odds this morning (twice the price of the other two), it was easily the value bet.
It is therefore disappointing that Matterofact has finished 2nd (6/1), Gold Express has finished 3rd (11/2) and Malapropism has finished 11th (14/1) beaten a fair way by the other two.
Clearly, the visor hasn’t had the desired effect today and it’s actually ran a much worse race than last time. I think we now need to take a watching brief with this horse as it had everything going for it today and hasn’t performed. I could maybe argue it prefers faster ground but it’s won on good to soft before, so I won’t blame the ground.
I think we’ll score Malapropism from our list at the moment until it shows more form.
